Shin Min Ah

I came across an article on the recent 2008 Korea Film awards in popseoul.com and couldn’t go on without posting something about Shin Min Ah. She is one of my favourite actresses and she looked so glamorous, graceful, beautiful and elegant on the red carpet. I have a habit of using many adjectives but she truly is ethereal…

On a sabbatical break from E-blog

(Click on the photos for enlargement)
Oh! I have been busy like a bee for past many days! I am so elated because my Sister-in-law gave birth to my niece- Dior on 28th December 2008.
Meanwhile I have rediscovered WheeSung, YounHa, Kim Jong Kook, Kim Tae Woo (G.O.D)...
WheeSung Raps! I am amazed by his rapping performances with YounHa. YounHa is my star! She can sing! She is as tiny as me so I am more than elated to find something common to form a sisterhood feeling with her...hahahaha....
Kim Jong Kook is interesting but since I learnt that his voice is mockingly compared to that of a mosquito, so whenever I hear him sing I can't stop smiling (laughing)...lol....
Kim Tae Woo the ex lead vocalist of popular Korean R&B group G.O.D puts me in my place. He can croon! His voice touches my heart sincerely and I am so glad for it...

T.O.P: Get well soon♥

T.O.P (Choi Seung Hyun) collapsed on 5 November 1 pm and was rushed to hospital and was discharged the following day on 6th November at 2pm. He was celebrating his 21st birthday (November 4, 1987) and completion/ release of their new album: Remember with fellow band mates (Big Bang) and other YG family members. The cause of his collapse is said to be stress and mixing his cough medicine with drinks taken during the celebration.
There was also a rumour speculating over the internet over his supposed suicide attempt. YG spokesperson for Big Bang and T.O.P himself has come forward and nullified the rumour. It is said that he was under strenuous pressure for past 3 months with his busy schedule- release of Japanese album-Number 1, shooting for music videos and photo shoots, press conferences, TV shows, interviews, working on the new album- Remember, etc which led him to depression. He was also under medication for cold. And during his birthday party he over drank which resulted in mixing up with medication leading him to collapse and be rushed to hospital
When I read a heading in popseoul.com- “T.O.P attempts suicide”, my heart nearly fell out! I was never so emotionally over come by any such news but for him I was almost going to cry but when I realised there was no credibility to the rumour I felt better and angry with such malicious and misleading news of him.

Below are the photos of him when discharged from hospital, looking pale and tired. I pray that he recover fast. ☺

WheeSung- Fading Star...★...

I am totally in love with WheeSung’s song ‘Fading star’. The voiceover done by him and Lee Hyori adds to the melancholic feel of the song and video. The song is very soulful and pleasant. The Music Video is very glamorous and nicely made. Hyori is looking gorgeous in her dress and WheeSung is looking good too. They make a good onscreen couple.
The entire day I have just been playing this one song over and over again and I am still not tired of listening to it…

At the end of the video when WheeSung hangs up the phone saying “An-yeong” (Bye) before he jumps from the building and Heori saying “Mian-he” (Sorry) is so touching and that it does something to my heart and eyes….

Waaaaa”””Ah! I love this song!

"The Forgotten Garden” by Kate Morton 7:40pm

It’s November; autumn; onset of winter. I can feel the chills already. What I like to do to keep myself entertained? I have been reading a book called “The Forgotten Garden” by Kate Morton and I love reading it tucked under my warm blanket. If I go on with the review of the book, I'll need another blog to describe it. In short, it's for people who love fairy tales and believe in old world romance with a bit of suspense and adventure...

Apart from it, Big Bang keeps me moving. A big girl gotta’ have her daily exercise (wicked smile)…
Hey! Big Bang’s Japan tour was a huge success, 20’000 seats sold out! They are back in Korea for their new album, ‘Remember’. I have my news source…lol...

The other day my friend- Pi asked why my entertainment blog only has Korean artists…. I have many other favourites too… I love watching world movies and listen to J-Pop, C-Pop, Hindi and English songs as well but whenever I sit down to write in this blog the only thing that come to my mind is Korea. I should rename this blog “My Korean Entertainment Blog” (thinking)…

This evening I laughed so much watching “Star Golden Bell Challenge” in KBS World. The only people I recognised were singer ‘Kim C’ and all girls-pop-group ‘The Wonder Girls’ and few Korean E-Biz known faces whose names I don’t know…

Last night, for the first time in my life I downloaded Hindi film songs! I like the song “Tu meri dost hai” (You are my friend) from the Bollywood film ‘Yuvvraj’ (Prince) starring Salman Khan and his real life girlfriend actress Katrina Kaif. I wanted to send it to my cyber friend so while Googling it, I ended up downloading the entire film’s songs…Hmmm….
Below is the song “Tu meri dost hai” (You are my friend) from the Bollywood film ‘Yuvvraj’ (Prince). Enjoy:

Rainism

Rain: Rainism, Rain: Ninja Assasin (Click on the photos for enlargement)

Rain is back with his new album 'Rainism'. I saw his new live music videos Rainism (Bad Boy), Love story and Only You. I liked the later 2 more. Rain is looking good, handsome as usual and fresh... Couldn't be more pleasing to the eyes and hopefully ears too(grinning...).
Ah! He has the bowlcut hairstyle that most Korean celebrities are donning these days. Don't know what's with the bowlcut hairstyle. I am not a fan of the hair style but it suits him though...
I am waiting for his new film 'Ninja Assasin' which is scheduled to hit theaters on January 16th, 2009. Saw the trailer, he looks promising but can't say the same for the film. It is made by Wachowski brothers so should be good...
Talking about Rain and new releases, Se7en comes to my mind. I am waiting for Se7en's American (English) debut as well. Hopefully it's a hit. I heard his new single from the Album online, it was good.

Other news: Big Bang VS DBSK:

Big Band and DBSK (TVSQ) are vying for the number one spot in Korea. I love both but I love Big Bang more and feel it would be so unfair if DBSK wins because it has just been a month since their new release- Mirotic. Big Bang has worked hard for so many months and has been consistent in the K-pop charts.
The winners are going be judged by public votes and it is certain then DBSK will win because in the history of music, in the entire world DBSK has the highest numbers of fans known as Cassiopeias (has been noted in the Guiness book of records).
Big bang’s fans are known as VIP by the way. And me being an Indian, I am a I-VIP, meaning International VIP! Cool isn’t it? Lol…

Just another news:
I watched 'Hansel and Gretel' Korean psycho-horror dark film. It was good. Good acting from the kids. Though it was intriguing it wasn't scary at all...
Now I am going to watch The way home (2002) and A little monk (2002). Both are tender loving story revolving around kids...

Back again with Big Bang! 01 October 2008

I am writing here after a long time, it's been about 6 months now. Ah! My taste in Korean music and films have changed by now and will change later on too...
I have gone back to my teenage years and in love with these cute Korean (boy)bands...hahaha...They are really talented and their music is good. Well they do have cheesy image but at the end their music matters and they are really good at it...

Big Bang tops my lists. It consists of 5 members. G-Dragon (20yrs) is the group leader and lead rapper and vocalist, TOP (21yrs) is the lead rapper, TaeYang (20 yrs) is one of the main vocalist, DaeSung (19yrs) is main vocalist and lastly SeungRi (18yrs) the youngest member is also the vocalist.
Ah! I love TOP. He executes a lot of charm...lol ;) DaeSung is next...
Daesung brings smile on my face. His song 'Gwinsung, look at me' shows his vocal talent and his funny side. It's a trot music which is a surprise turn because Big Bang is a heavy Hip Hop group.

There are other bands too which I like- SHInee, DBSK, Epik High, VOS, etc... Among these SHINee is relatively new band and the members are so young!
Rain/Bi/Jeong Ji Hoon is still my favourite but Big Bang (TOP) and Se7en is soon taking along his place...

There are many new films that I like now... The films mentioned in the old list are still my favourites so I won't change them... Yesterday I watched The Host(2006) and bits and parts of Oldboy(2005)...I didn't like the synopsis of Oldboy, its incest storyline grossed me out but I'll watch it for the direction and acting for which it is known. Bollywood version of Oldboy, Zinda was made few years back (shamelessly). The Host was superb and now I am watching critically acclaimed and Cannes award winning best actress film Secret Sunshine and at the same time My Piano(2006)...so far both are very good!

Current Korean Favourites:
Current favourite Song: Haru Haru (Day by day) by Big Bang
Current favourite Video: Haru Haru by Big Bang, Fan by Epik High
Current favourite singers: Big Bang, Lee Seung Gi, SHInee, Epik High, DBSK & VOS. Surprisingly only one solo artist on the list...
Current favourite Film: The King and the Clown (Lee Jun Gi- love him)
Current favourite Actor: Lee Jun Gi
Current favourite Actress: Lee Jun Gi (Yes! hahaha...for King and the Clown)
Current favourite Drama: The Vinyard man(2007), Snow Queen(2005) although it is an old drama...

Stairway to heaven: Korean Drama

I started watching "Stairway to heaven" (Korean drama) day before last night and watched it continuously without sleep and only toilet break, and finished watching last night....the ending was too depressing...I still cannot get over the sadness and am feeling melancholic....

Watch it guys! It’s a very sweet, tragic, romantic and fun drama.
Quotes from "stairway to heaven" :
Song-Joo: People who love each other end up reuniting. No matter how far apart they are, they will reunite in the end. Love is something that returns!
Song-Joo: Perhaps he may have loved her more than I did. However, this does not mean that I loved her any less.

My Favourite Korean Music Artists: 4th April' 08', 2 AM

My Favourite Korean Music Artists:
Korea is a land of talents in the field of entertainment. The Hallyu wave (k-wave) has swept all over Asia and even touched the remote village of mine, Basar. As I don’t speak Korean and Korean music is hard to come by as compared to K-movies/Dramas, I am not much exposed to the music industry of Korea. But whatever little I know I would like to share in my blog with everyone…

Se7en
I love se7en’s voice! He churns just my kind of music; R&B, Hip-Hop/Pop, Soul, Ballads in a soft tenor voice. Earlier I wasn’t much aware of his presence, and then I saw few of his videos online and heard his songs and fell in love with his voice. Now that I am aware of him, I have fallen in love with his persona. He’s cute, sings so well, dances so coolly (again my kind of free style dancing) and has a sweet-lovable persona. I am yet to see his Drama. I am not aware of his acting talent but I can recon with all my heart that he sings beautifully…I am looking forward to find a copy of his drama “Goong S- princes' hours” to only watch him act…

Rain
I love Rain more than any Hallyu(Korean) stars put together, but when it comes to music Se7en won hands down. Rain is a superb singer-dancer no doubt but sometimes his high note can be irritating to the ears. His songs are basically good for hip-hopping and dancing. He has yet to come up with a classic ballad.
I love Rain’s personality, his hard working nature and sincerely towards his work, be it singing, dancing or acting. One can obviously see that he puts in a lot of effort in his tasks but sometimes trying for perfection, the essence can go missing. That’s what I feel he lacks in his music: Soul.
He is still too young, so he should relax a bit and not over exert himself in order to be No.1. I’ll always support him no matter what and looking forward to watch his first English film Speed Racer directed by Wachowshki Brothers.

Shin Hye-Sung
An ex member and lead vocalist of the most popular boy band in the history of Korea, Shinhwa, he has proved his mettle in his solos. I love his soulful voice and strong ballads. I believe he is an extremely talented and gifted singer whose songs will go on to become classics…

Lee Ji Hoon
I loved him in the drama “Hello! Miss” and did a Google search on him and learnt that he has been a solo singer since 1996 and a member of S with Shin Hye-Sung of Shinhwa and Kang Ta of H.O.T. I tried finding more information on him as my curiosity grew and did a lot of You Tube and Google search. The more I learnt about him, the more I liked him. He is cute! Now that I have heard his songs, I really like his voice! Soulful, R&B and ballads…just my choice!

My favourite Korean Movies and Dramas:

My all time favourite Korean films (not necessarily in the below order):
1. Bungee jumping of their own
2. Il Mare (Siworae – 시월애)
3. Traces of Love (Gaeulro-가을로)
4. Wind struck (Nae yeojachingureul sogae hamnida -내 여자친구를 소개합니다)
5. Daddy long legs (Kidari ajeossi)
6. Daisy (Deiji – 데이지)
7. …ing
8. My girl and I (Parang-juuibo)
9. Solace (Salanghal ddae iyagihaneun geotdeul-
사랑할 때 이야기하는 것들)
10. Lover'sConcertos

My all time favourite Korean dramas (not necessarily in the below order):

*. Winter Ballad
1. A love to kill
2. Full House
3. Stairway to heaven
4. My Girl
5. Hello! Miss
6. Romance
7. Lovers in Paris
8. Spring Waltz (though it was a disappointment, I loved the concept and the music. The Director did a poor work)

9. The 1st Coffeeshop Prince

10. Princess Hours (Goong)

My favourite Korean actors:

I have listed few of the Korean actors whom I love:
(Not necessary in the below order because I love Kang Dong Won a lot!)

1. Rain/비/Bi/ Jeong Ji Hoon
I love 비 a lot. Being an established Singer, dancer and model, he has created a name for himself in the world of acting too. In "Full House" I fell in love with his cute-boyish charm that he portrayed apart from his regular hip-hop/manly stage image. But it was his role in "A Love to Kill" as K-1 fighter, Kang Bok-Gu that took my breath away. I have watched "A Love to Kill" more times than any film or series in my life. His role as a troubled man was just so convincing. He showed the pain and love in his eyes so well. His eyes are so expressive! He acted so well and was perfect to the core. He is so cute in “I am cyborg, but it’s OK”. He is a superstar of the era to look out for. I hope to watch his new film “Speed racer” soon.

2. Lee Byung-Hun
He is an actor whom I admire and respect. His acting talent is awesome. He has the most expressive eyes and body language, at least for me. I like watching him emote on screen. He has got a huge screen presence. I have seen few of his films where he played different shades of characters and each time he made a mark and touched my heart with his sincere acting. My all time favourite film “Bungee jumping of their own” starring him will always remain close to my heart, though I credit the script writer and the director for the film more. I like his fight scenes and those silent portrayals of love in “A bittersweet life”. He’s got this mysterious look about him. In “Addicted” I loved his silent and obsessive role. A good actor is known by the way he emotes through his eyes and body language and Lee Byung-Hun exactly does that!

3. Kwon Sang-Woo
Girls love him all over Asia! Why not? He has the most gorgeous body and can act so well! Personally I like him more for his roles rather than for his physical features. I used to think he has ‘done’ his face but once I saw a teenage photo of his on internet and realised his face is naturally pulled back(sorry). I loved all his films and the drama “Stairway to heaven”. In “Stairway to heaven” I felt he could have done a better job. I like his chemistry with a favourite actress of mine Kim Ha-Neul in “My Tutor friend” and “Almost love”, they look good together…

4. Kim Rae-Won

Kim Rae-Won is a sweet actor who has the boy next door image. There is a ‘feel good factor’ about him. Though I haven’t seen much range of acting from him in “…ing”, “My Love Patzzi”, “Love story in Harvard”, “My little Bride” I still love him because there’s something about him which is very lovable. He reminds me of Rain when I see his films.

5. Hyun Bin
I first saw him in “Millionaire’s first love” and liked him instantly and then very recently I saw "Snow Queen" and was smitten, big time! I have yet to see more of his work…

6. Kang Dong-Won
He was my first crush on any Korean actor. A scene from “Temptations of the Wolf” where he runs with an umbrella holding the girl’s hand in the rain is a classic scene. That scene will remain as one of my all time favourite romantic scene. He is really cool! He has unique movie choice which I really like and appreciate. I love his recent films- Maundy Thursday, Dualist, M, Voice of a murderer and his first film- Too beautiful to lie, starring my favourite acrtess Kim Na Neul. he was over shadowed by her in the later because he was a newcomer then. :)

Apart from the above there are many I like such as- Lee Dong-Wook and Lee Joon-Ki from the drama “My Girl”, Lee Ji-Hoon and Brian from “Hello! Miss”, Daniel Henney, Won Bin, etc…

My Favourite Korean Actresses

My favourite Korean actresses-
(Not necessarily in the below order)

1. Shin Min-Ah
She has the perfect face and height. She’s also very cute and her dimple is simply captivating. She can express well and has a strong screen presence. I like her a lot personally and want her to succeed more in her career.

2. Song Hye-Gyo
She’s got the sweetest, prettiest and the most charming face. I laughed and laughed watching her in “Full House”. It was after having a glimpse of her in “Autumn Fairytale” and had watched “My Girl/ Parang-juuibo” I learnt she is not only versatile but also a very talented actress. I believe she has the most photogenic face…

3. Lee Da-Hae
She looks very much like Song Hye-Gyo, but taller and younger. When I first saw her in “My Girl”, I thought she copies Song Hye-Gyo but gradually more I saw of her more I started liking her. She is talented, beautiful and acts very well. I loved both her dramas, “My Girl” and “Hello! Miss”, they made me giggle and smile all the way…

4. Kim Ha-Neul
I instantly liked her when I first saw her in “Romance”, and then I watched “Too Beautiful to Lie”, “My Tutor friend” and “Almost love” and fell for her charm completely. I like her pairing with Kwon Sang-Woo in the last two films, they share good chemistry…

5. Jun Ji-hyun
She is an extremely beautiful and talented actress. She’s one of the most well known Korean faces all over Asia. She’s acted in my all time favourite films, “Il mare, daisy and Wind struck”.

6.
Im Su-jeong
Her film “Sad Movie” made me cry and cry. She played another of my favourite actress Shin Min-Ah’s elder sister in “Sad Movie”. I find her very cute and a fine actress. Her films “…ing, Sad movie, and I am Cyborg, but it’s OK” are few of my favourite films.
